I also feel so honored to have met and spoken with Ray. We had some very cool conversations about antiwar activism and, of course, jazz. He also liked old Santana, i believe! So much knowledge! The last time i saw Ray was the same day i had interviewed my sister Alice, back in June of 2006. He had been very ill, and his wife accompanied him to the station. Before starting his show, with his characteristic deliberating eloquence, he said that he had something "very special" to give to me which i might find useful.
"Kate, I want to present you with a gift - it is something that I have cherished, and now i give it you."  It was his black CD (24+) bag! Just imagine all the wonderful music that had been carried in that little bag over the years! Thank you for being such a great guy and supporter of the HomeGrownNJ project! kate
